Forest machine operator – Kuru 5.11.2012 - 24.5.2013 + 3 months on-the-job-learning period

Content of the course
The trainee will complete the forest machine operator vocational examination. After the course the trainee is capable to work as a harvester or forwarder operator and take care of machines regular maintenance and keep it in working condition. Emphasis in the course are on the right working technique and quality of the work. Approximately 80% of the course duration is practical harvesting and forwarding operation in the forest. In the practical work in the forest, the trainee achieves the skill level to work independently at the worksites. Practical training in the course is carried out in two shifts. At the end of the training, there will be assessment of forest machine operator examination. Total duration of the course is 10 months. The training in 5.11.2012 – 24.5.2012 is carried out at school but in addition to this there will be 3 months on-the-job-learning period in the company.
There is a great need of skilled forest machine operators. A half of the students from the former courses have found work as a forest machine operator. The study language at the course will be English.

*nature- and environmental management
*forest management and timber quality
*work techniques (different machine types)

The last part of the training at course consists of work practice period in a company (0-10 weeks) depending on each trainees personal study plan. At the course we will use modern machinery (3 harvesters and 3 forwarders) Ponsse, Valmet and John Deere.
Entry requirements
The course is meant for trainees who have a degree from forestry in any level and/or work experience from forestry. Also trainees who have a degree from other vocational education and would be suitable can apply to the course. There are 15 student places on the course.
Participation fee
The training is voluntary vocational training. The student fee is 300,00€ (including examination fee)
The students have to pay also the accommodation in the dormitory at the school (95€/month, double rooms) and the food is also available in the schools canteen at student prices.
